Assessment comes first. Not every construction is a good candidate for the same wet method.
Wool rugs
Common in living rooms. Wool needs a gentler solution and a colour test. We will say if the piece looks too fragile for a full extraction clean.
Synthetic rugs
Hallway runners and modern pieces often tolerate a more straightforward clean after vacuuming.
Delicate weaves
Fine pile, viscose-like fibres and unknown antiques are inspected case by case. If on-site cleaning is unwise, we will tell you.
High-traffic rugs
Doorway and hall pieces that take grit from shoes. These often need the soil lifted, not just a surface vacuum.
Stained areas
Marks can be treated as part of the visit. Stubborn cases sit with our stain and spot removal work.
Fringes and edges
We work carefully around fringes so they are not over-wetted or pulled. Mention damage before we start.

Ground-in grit
Dirt in the pile acts like sandpaper underfoot. Vacuuming helps. Extraction is for what a domestic vacuum leaves.
Odour in the pile

Spills on a feature rug
Drinks and food on a pale rug need a stain plan, not a hard scrub that can fuzz the pile.

Hot water extraction on suitable rugs, with care around edges so the backing is not soaked.

Pile is groomed to dry evenly. You get simple handling notes while it is damp.
Drying is usually a matter of hours, longer on thick wool. Keep foot traffic off until the surface feels dry.
Professional equipment and cleaning methods
Professional extraction pulls soil out of the pile. A household vacuum cannot match that on compacted dirt.
We are not a rug-washing plant and we do not invent WoolSafe or similar badges. If a rug needs specialist off-site work, we will say that on inspection rather than force an on-site method.
